DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers) Section cross-reference(s): 21, 45, 67 (NHC)-Cu (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene) complexes efficiently catalyzed the methylenation of a variety of aliph. and arom. 18031-40-8 and 586-37-8 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here. aldehydes and ketones in the presence of trimethylsilyldiazomethane, triphenylphosphine, and 2-propanol. The copper catalysts are not only inexpensive compared to rhodium complexes, but they also exhibit better functional group compatibility with arom. aldehydes and ketones. Indeed very high yields were obtained for the formation of styrenes contg. nitro, trifluoromethyl, amino, and ester groups, as well as for pyridine-, pyrrole-, and indole-substituted alkenes. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 10 (Microbial, Algal, and Fungal Biochemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 17 Citral, trans-cinnamaldehyde, (-)-perillaldehyde, (-)-citronellal, eugenol and carvacrol were tested for their influence on microbial count in air by vaporizing with an air washer. The highest antibacterial activity was obsd. when (-)-perillaldehyde was sprayed. In this article, certain chemicals are used. Some of their cas registry numbers are 499-75-2 and 18031-40-8 The av. reduce of germ count was 53%. On the other hand, the antimicrobial activity of eugenol was the lowest of these six compds. The av. redn. of germ count was 13%. When water without volatile compds. was sprayed, the colony forming units increased. These results suggest the utility of selected aroma-compds. for the control of bacteria in the room. .
