Hyg., 31(9), 513-20 (Czech) 1986. CODEN: CEHYAN. ISSN: 0009-0573. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) 2,4-Dinitrotoluene (I) [121-14-2], 3,4,6-trinitrotoluene [610-25-3], 2,5.6-trinitrotoluene [18292-97-2], and 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene [118-96-7] were detd. in samples of surface water from a quarry by TLC on silica gel. The sums of all trinitrotoluenes and dinitrotoluenes were detd. by differential pulse polarog.: (3.68 mg and 1.77 mg/L, resp.). In a nearby river above the quarry, there were no detectable nitrotoluene derivs.; below the quarry the concns. were 0.126 and 0.978 mg/L resp. Apparently, explosive residues from the quarry cause the water pollution. Differential pulse polarog. is suitable for the detn. of low concns. of nitrotoluenes in water.

Karger: Basel, Switz. (English) 1983. CODEN: 51AEAG. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) Section cross-reference(s): 14 Humans given ad libitum diets showed more enhancers of promutagen and mutagen activity in their urine concns. among cigaret smokers than among nonsmokers. Nonsmokers (women) given no vitamin C [50-81-7] for 12 days and then 30, 60, or 90 mg vitamin C/day for 10 days, with or without 600 mg erythorbic acid [89-65-6], showed generally lower amts. of enhancers for the promutagens 2-acetylaminofluorene [53-96-3] and 2-anthramine [613-13-8] and the mutagen 2,3,6-trinitrotoluene [18292-97-2] in tests with Salmonella typhimurium. Least enhancement was with 60 mg ascorbic acid plus erythorbate in tests of trinitrotoluene mutagenic activity enhancement of S. typhimurium strain TA98. .
