DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 24 (Alicyclic Compounds) Treatment of 1,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane with AlCl3 in a 1:2 ratio at 100 .+-. 5.degree. for 140 h at atm. pressure gave 5.9% methylcyclohexane, 13.9% dimethylcyclohexanes, 51.0% trimethylcyclohexanes and 28.7% bi- and tricyclic hydrocarbons (primarily adamantanes). Treatment of endo-tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene with AlBr3 in a 1:2 molar ratio at 90 .+-. 5.degree. and atm pressure for 3 h gave a mixt. of several adamantanes; the main (85.8%) product was adamantane. Both reactions go via a Decalin-type intermediate. .
