Treatment of endo-tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene with AlBr3 in a 1:2 molar ratio at 90 .+-. 5.degree. and atm pressure for 3 h gave a mixt. of several adamantanes; the main (85.8%) product was adamantane. Both reactions go via a Decalin-type intermediate. .
