DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 40 (Textiles) Section cross-reference(s): 34, 38, 74 A study of the photochem. of tyrosine (I) [60-18-4] and its derivs. in poly(vinyl alc.) [9002-89-5], and methylcellulose [9004-67-5] films showed no evidence for photoejection of electrons, dimerization, or DOPA prodn., reactions known to occur in aq. soln. The fluorescence quantum yields of I and derivs. were within the range 0.17 ± 0.02, implying that the charge-transfer quenching mechanisms of I fluorescence postulated to occur in aq. soln. do not occur in solid films. I derivs. could be classified into 3 groups by their photochem. behavior: (1) I and tyramine [51-67-2] degraded without generating absorption at wavelengths >260 nm; (2) the C-substituted derivs. deaminated to form p-coumaryl derivs.; and (3) the N-substituted derivs. degraded with phenol ring breakdown to produce labile products which had max. UV absorbances near 280 nm. .

The antioxidant activity of these esters has been detd. There are some commonly used reagents like 19367-38-5 in this article. by superoxide free radical scavenging activity and DPPH free radical scavenging activity. The SAR studies reveal that pyrogallol, catechol moieties are essential for good antioxidant activity and an increase in the length of alkyl chain of the ester decreases the activity. Bu hydroxycinnamates exhibit higher antibacterial activity among the synthesized hydroxycinnamates 5a-p, but, none of these show significant antifungal activity. .
