DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 22 (Physical Organic Chemistry) The vibrational spectra (IR, far IR and Raman) of 4,6-dimethyl-2-mercaptopyrimidine and 4,6-dihydroxy-2-methylmercaptopyrimidine are reported along with their assignments. H bonding and tautomeric behavior are discussed. Electronic spectra in various solvents at different pH values were recorded. The effect of a change of solvent on the electronic transitions of both compds. is explained along with the bathochromic and hypsochromic shifts obsd. when the neutral form of the compd. is changed to the anionic or cationic form. .
