DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) Piglets given KI 0.5, CoCl2 3, and ZnSO4 4 mg/animal/day, these trace elements plus Na sulfadimesine [1981-58-4] (2-3 mL 2% soln. 3 times, 3 days apart during weaning), and furazolidone [67-45-8] (0.25g/animal 3 times, 3 days apart, once before and twice after weaning), or the sulfadimesine and furazolidone alone had wt. gains of 368, 405, and 260 g/day (controls 294). Blood indexes of the trace element plus sulfodimesine and furazolidone group were best, and trace element levels in the blood of this group were highest. Addn. of a Cu salt to the trace element mixt. led to similar results. The basic feed of these piglets was somewhat deficient in I, Co, Cu, and Zn.

Sulfathiocarbamide and sulfacetamide Na showed rapid urinary excretion. For water-sol. compds., the absorption was enhanced by increasing their concn. in the suppository.
