DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 33 (Carbohydrates) A new and efficient method for the synthesis of the title potential antiviral agents (I; R = H, CH2OH) is described. The synthesis makes use of N-acetylguanine, which condenses with the corresponding tosylates 4-MeC6H4SO3(CH2)2CHRCH2OCH2Ph under the catalysis of dibenzo-18-crown-6, resulting in the desired coupling products II (R = H, CH2OCH2Ph) in good yield and in the case of I (R = CH2OCH2Ph) with high regioselectivity. .
