Studies on the vegetative life cycle of Chlamydomonas reinhardi Dangeard in synchronous culture
Studies on the vegetative life cycle of Chlamydomonas reinhardi Dangeard in synchronous culture. V. The transition point for the effect of 6-methyl purine in the cell cycle. Mihara, Sayoko; Hase, Eiji (Inst. Appl. Microbiol., Univ. Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan). Plant Cell Physiol., 19(1), 83-9 (English) 1978. CODEN: PCPHA5. ISSN: 0032-0781. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 3 (Biochemical Interactions) Nuclear division, chloroplast division, cytokinesis, and zoospore liberation were measured in C. reinhardi cells exposed to a high concn. of 6-methylpurine (I) [2004-03-7]. This effect did not occur after cells had passed a crit. stage (transition point) which seemed to be situated shortly prior to the onset of nuclear division under the conditions used. When I was applied to cells after the transition point, an advancing effect on zoospore libertion occurred. A cycloheximide [66-81-9] inhibition step existed shortly after the transition point for I. A model was proposed for the effects of I and cycloheximide.
Induced resistance to 6-methylpurine and cycloheximide in Tetrahymena
Induced resistance to 6-methylpurine and cycloheximide in Tetrahymena. II. Variation within vegetative cultures of micronucleate T. thermophila and amicronucleate T. pyriformis. Byrne, Bruce C. (Sect. Genet., Dev. Physiol., Cornell Univ., Ithaca, N. Y., USA). Genetics, 89(4), 703-10 (English) 1978. CODEN: GENTAE. ISSN: 0016-6731. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 3 (Biochemical Interactions) Resistance to 6-methylpurine [2004-03-7] and cycloheximide [66-81-9] was induced in T. thermophila and T. pyriformis only after mutagen (x-rays or N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine [70-25-7]) treatment and vegetative growth. The frequencies with which resistant variants are induced are reported, and the independence of mutagenesis and selection are demonstrated. All evidence was consistent with the hypothesis that macronuclear subunits are assorting in both species during vegetative growth to produce new phenotypes among subclones.
