In an example, reaction of 2 mmol 2-adamantanone with CCl4 and 0.002 mmol Mn(acac)3 at a molar ratio of [Mn]/[2-adamantanone]/[CCl4] = 1:1 in a sealed autoclave at 200° for 3 h gave 92% 1-chloro-4-adamantanone. .
