Pyrovatex CP [20120-33-6] (phosphonopropionamide), one of five direct or reactive dyes, various amts. of resin selected from the group Lyofix CHN-ZA (formaldehyde-melamine copolymer) [9003-08-1], Cassurit HML, Cassurit RI (dimethylolethyleneurea) [136-84-5], or Fixapret CPA (DMHEU) [1854-26-8], and a catalysts selected from the group consisting of Knittex AP [88026-17-9] (amine hydrochloride, triethanolamine hydrochloride [637-39-8]-NH4NO3, Zn(NO3)2.6H2O, and NH4NO3. The melamine-based resins increased the limiting oxygen index values whereas the N-methylolethyleneurea resins showed slight decreases as the resin concn. was increased. The resins increased crease resistance and decreased resistance to tearing and abrasion. Higher crease recovery angles but lower flex abrasion values were obtained with the melamine-based resins. The presence of dye did not affect the phys. properties. The use of resins increased the wash fastness of the dyed fabrics but this effect did not depend on resin concn. Light fastness results were fairly consistent and were not affected by the presence of resin. Color fixation was enhanced as the resin concn. was increased but this effect was not as pronounced in the presence of the N-methylolethyleneurea resins. Higher concns. of the amine hydrochloride catalysts and longer curing times increased the limiting oxygen index values slightly. Tear strength and abrasion resistance deteriorated as the catalysts concn. and curing times increased. The melamine-based resins produced higher limiting oxygen index values and crease recovery angles but lower tear strength and abrasion resistance and slightly stiffer handle than the N-methylol-based resins. The reactive dyes were more suitable for the simultaneous process than were the disperse dyes.

The P of mercerized fabrics was higher than that of scoured and bleached fabrics. The P decreased on treating the fabrics with mixts. of Pyrovatex CP [20120-33-6] and melamine-formaldehyde resin [9003-08-1]. A correlation was established between P and the wt., d., and thickness of the fabrics.
