The coupling in aq. emulsion improves the temp. control and selectivity of the reaction. Thus, 2-MeC6H4N(CH2CH2OH)2 [28005-74-5] was dispersed at 50° in H2O contg. 5% oxyethylated tall oil and coupled with an aq. soln. of 4-O2NC6H4N2Cl at 35-40° within ~5 min. Similarly prepd. were azo dyes from 2,5-(HO3S)2C6H3NH2 [98-44-2] 2,5-Me(MeO)C6H3NH2 [50868-72-9], 2,4-Cl(O2N)C6H3NH2 [121-87-9] and PhN(Et)CH2CH2CN [148-87-8], and 2,4,6-Br(O2N)2C6H2NH2 [1817-73-8] and 2,5-EtO(AcNH)C6H3N(CH2CH2OAc)2 [20249-05-2]. .
