Certain 6-thio-substituted purine analogs described herein showed moderate to good inhibitory activity. In particular, two purine analogs 9-(ethylcarboxymethyl)-6-(decylthio)-9H-purine and 9-(ethylcarboxymethyl)-6-(dodecylthio)-9H-purine exhibited MIC values of 1.56 and 0.78 mg/mL resp. against the Mtb H37Rv strain. N9-Substitution apparently enhances the antimycobacterial activity in the purine series described herein. .

Using both the data obtained and the A"-McKay plot method, the reaction was analyzed, and the rate const. (k) for the monosubstituted thiophenol has been obtained. Consequently, it has been found that (1) the higher the temp. is, the larger is the reactivity of monosubstituted thiophenols, (2) the temp. dependence of the effect of the substituent (in a monosubstituted thiophenol) on the reactivity of the monosubstituted thiophenol is weak, (3) the reactivity of monosubstituted thiophenols follows the Hammett rule, (4) the reactivity of monosubstituted thiophenols can be enhanced with one of the electron-attractive substituents. .
