Thus, a panel judged that a 1:1 mixt. of acetosulfam and aspartame at 350 mg/L water had a taste better than (16 of 20), equal to (1 of 20), or inferior to (3 of 20) that of 6% aq. sucrose.

When administered orally to mice, mutagenic activity was demonstrable in the urine of these animals as well as in a host-mediated assay. Highly purified saccharin was not mutagenic in the direct assay, but the urine of mice to which this material had been administered exhibited mutagenic effects on one test strain (Salmonella typhimurium TA100). Two other sweeteners, neohesperidin dihydrochalcone [20702-77-6] and xylitol [87-99-0], had no detectable mutagenic activity in any of these assays using his-Salmonella typhimurium strains TA100 or TA98.
