DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 3 (Biochemical Interactions) Of the 11 .beta.-D-glucosides tested, only methyl .beta.-D-glucoside [709-50-2], 3-nitrophenyl .beta.-D-glucoside [20838-44-2], picein [530-14-3], cellobiose [528-50-7], and gentiobiose [554-91-6] induced .beta.-galactosidase [9031-11-2] synthesis in E. coli at 1 mM. At 10 mM, only cellobiose and gentiobiose acted as inducers. .
