DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 62 (Essential Oils and Cosmetics) Lipstick dyes (erythrosine [16423-68-0], rhodamine B [81-88-9], tetrachlorotetrabromofluorescein [18472-87-2], deep maroon [67351-94-4], eosine YS [17372-87-1],permanent orange [3468-63-1], and lake red CBA [2092-56-0]) were detd. by dual wave length densitometry. A lipstick was dissolved in a few mL CHCl3 and dild. with EtOH, acidic EtOH, or 1,1,2-trichloroethane. The coloring materials were sepd. by thin-layer chromatog. EtOH, 1:2:3 petroleum ether-toluene-CHCl3, or 6:2:3 BuOH-EtOH-0.5N HOAc were used for the chromatog. After thin-layer chromatog. sepn., each spot on the thin-layer chromatogram was scanned by a dual wave length densitometer under visible light. The coeffs. of variation of dual wave length densitometry were 0.85-1.74%. The recoveries of dyes added to lipsticks were 90.9-102.4%.

Thus, a ink compn. comprising Lake Red C [2092-56-0] 20, Hitanol 1133 [9086-40-2] 15, Isopar E 20, ethylcyclohexane [1678-91-7] 30, and a mixt. of linoleic acid and oleic acid dimer cyclohexylamide 3 parts was able to be coated at high wettability on a polyethylene [9002-88-4] surface which had been rubbed with a dry cloth at 45° and 30% relative humidity.
