A lipstick was dissolved in a few mL CHCl3 and dild. with EtOH, acidic EtOH, or 1,1,2-trichloroethane. The coloring materials were sepd. by thin-layer chromatog. EtOH, 1:2:3 petroleum ether-toluene-CHCl3, or 6:2:3 BuOH-EtOH-0.5N HOAc were used for the chromatog. After thin-layer chromatog. sepn., each spot on the thin-layer chromatogram was scanned by a dual wave length densitometer under visible light. The coeffs. of variation of dual wave length densitometry were 0.85-1.74%. The recoveries of dyes added to lipsticks were 90.9-102.4%.
