The application of Sencor most effectively controlled weeds. The herbicides did not affect the nutrient value of tomatoes.

Presowing incorporated treatments providing the best weed control with safety in the crop were U-27-267 [34157-48-7], napropamide [15299-99-7], pebulate [1114-71-2], napropamide [15299-99-7] plus pebulate and trifluraline [1582-09-8] plus diphenamid [957-51-7]. Pendimethalin [40487-42-1] plus napropamide and sulfallate-napropamide mixt. [64685-67-2] or isopropalin-sulfallate mixt. [64685-68-3] gave some control of black nightshade (Solenum nigrum complex), but reduced crop vigor during unfavorable growing conditions. Pre-emergence metribuzin [21087-64-9] was very damaging in some trials, but post-emergence applications at the 4 to 6 leaf stage were well tolerated.
