DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Meta-nifedipine (I) [21829-28-7] improved cardiac performance in anesthetized dogs more than did nifedipine [21829-25-4], and its duration of action was longer. Moreover, I decreased heart rate, whereas nifedipine increased it. In cats, I was more potent and longer-acting than nifedipine in improving left-ventricular function and in decreasing myocardial O requirement and peripheral vascular resistance. Thus, I would appear to be the more beneficial of the 2 drugs in treating congestive heart failure.
