The antioxidants, a-tocopherol [59-02-9] and b-ionol [22029-76-1], at concns. completely inhibiting lipid peroxidn., did not affect the hormone-induced mitochondrial swelling. However, mitochondrial swelling was inhibited by EGTA [67-42-5], indicating a role for Ca2+ in this process.
