DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Hormone Pharmacology) When ischemic shock was induced in rats the hematocrit first increased with a peak at 18 h and then decreased to the basal level by 96 h. Plasma lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) [9001-60-9] activity increased rapidly reaching a peak at 18 h and then decreasing to slightly above basal levels at 164 h. The muscle LDH, however, decreased drastically by 18 h with a recovery to normal by 164 h. Dexamethasone phosphate [312-93-6] given after 3 and 18 h normalized the hematocrit values. Hydrocortisone hemisuccinate [2203-97-6] and aprotinin [9039-77-4] were somewhat less effective. The response of LDH in plasma and muscle to these antishock compds. was somewhat less. Dexamethasone phosphate was the best antishock treatment.
