DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 41 (Dyes, Organic Pigments, Fluorescent Brighteners, and Photographic Sensitizers) The title compds. I (R = NH2, OH; R1 = R2 = CN), useful as dye intermediates, are prepd. by treating I (R = NH2, OH; R1 = H, Cl, Br, SO3H; R2 = H) with alkali metal cyanides at 60-120° in DMSO in the presence of NH4HCO3. Treating I (R = NH2, R1 = Br, R2 = H) with NaCN in DMSO in the presence of NH4HCO3 at 95° for 2 h gave 90.6% I (R = NH2, R1 = R2 = CN) in 90.6% yield. .
