- Acetic anhydride and pentafluorobenzoyl chloride: two complementary derivatization reagents in chlorinated phenol determination in water. Dano, S. D.; Chambon, P.; Chambon, R.; Sanou, A. (Lab. Chim. Anal. Toxicol., Fac. Pharm., Abidjan, Ivory Coast). Analusis, 14(10), 538-42 (French) 1986. CODEN: ANLSCY. ISSN: 0365-4877. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 61 (Water) Section cross-reference(s): 80 Derivs. of chloro phenols with (MeCO)2O [108-24-7] and C6F5COCl [2251-50-5] are directly extd. from a water sample and detd. by capillary gas chromatog. on reticulated Me silicone, with 2,4,6-tribromophenol as the internal std. 95-57-8 and 15950-66-0 which are cas registry numbers of chemicals are mentioned. The acetylation procedure is more applicable to polychlorinated phenols, whereas pentafluorobenzoylation is better suited for the less chlorinated phenols. The 2 methods combined show a detection limit on the order of parts-per-billion. Application of the methods to anal. of lake water in the Abidjan region, France, at sites of com. wood loading detected chlorophenols at the 14-324 ppb level. Industrial wastewater samples from the Lyon region, France, were found to contain mono- and polychlorophenols at concns. of 6 ppb-3 ppm. .
