Direct-positive silver halide photographic emulsions. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 74 (Radiation Chemistry, Photochemistry, and Photographic Processes) Direct pos.-type Ag halide photog. emulsions are obtained by prefogging an emulsion obtained by adding a 1,2,4-triazoline-3-thione compd. (I; R, R1 = H, NH2, alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, acetamido, sulfonamido, aryl) 5-500 mg/mole Ag halide prior to completion of the phys. ripening. These emulsions have good shelf-life. Thus, a 1% MeOH soln. of I (R = NH2, R2 = Ph)(II) 0.6 ml was added to a soln. contg. gelatin 10, KBr 16, KI 0.3 g and H2O 320 ml. The resultant soln. was then mixed at 40.degree. with a soln. obtained from AgNO3 20 g, 28% aq. NH4OH 18, and H2O 160 ml. After ripening for 5 min, the pH was lowered to 5.0, gelatin was added, the mixt. was cooled and the solid mass was washed with H2O. The emulsion was dissolved then fogged by the addn. of thiourea dioxide 4.0 mg/mole Ag and H2PtCl6. Pinakryptol Yellow 200 mg/mole Ag, hardening agent, and a surfactant were added, and the emulsion was coated on a cellulose triacetate film support. The film was exposed, developed (Kodak D-72), and fixed to give a .gamma.-value of 2.01, a Dmax 1.68, and Dmin of 0.04 vs. 1.45, 1.64, and 0.08, resp., for a II-free control. .
