DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 17 (Foods) Samples of soft and durum wheat varieties cultivated in different parts of Greece and Cyprus as well as semolinas and pasta products were analyzed by thin-layer chromatog. (Bernaerts, M. J.; Gruener, M., 1968). None of the durum varieties examd. gave the sitosterol palmitate (SP) [2308-85-2] band; most of the soft varieties developed it strongly, except the Italian varieties Badia, Gallini, Generoso, and Sparta, which gave chromatograms similar to the durum varieties. Aging of semolinas as well as the process followed in the prepn. of pasta products gave a clear appearance of the SP band.
