DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Phthalophos (I) [732-11-6] and phosalone (II) [2310-17-0] were detd. in water and in tissue samples of fish by thin-layer chromatog. on silica gel plates using a petroleum ether-acetone (9:1) mixt. as the eluting mixt. and bromphenol blue spray (followed by 1% citric acid soln.) as the developing agent. Spraying with 2% 4-aminoantipyrene and then 10% K4Fe(CN)6 selectively identified II. Chromatog. on Silufol plates was sensitive for the 2 pesticides in concns. of 0.005 mg/L in water and 0.025 mg/kg in fish and was specific for I and II in the presence of methylnitrophos, phosphamide, and anthio. A max. permissible concn. of II at 0.003 mg/L water is recommended.
