Red American Beauty, pruned in either a cutback or layback manner, and gibberellic acid (II) [77-06-5] sprays were applied after bud-break. I application generally increased bud-break on both layback and cutback-pruned plants. II sprays did not improve growth of I-induced shoots. Layback-pruned plants developed a greater no. of renewal canes (those reproductive stems that produced shoots of equal or greater basal stem diameter after the 1st and 2nd pinch) than cutback-pruned plants after growth regulator treatments.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) Treatment of onion (Allium cepa) bulbs with SD 8339 (PBA)(I) [2312-73-4] (50-2000 ppm) in Me cellosolve by injection or by topical application to the cut surface of the bottom half of the bulb induced bulbil formation at concns. .gtoreq.100 ppm, although phytotoxicity was also obsd. at the higher concns. Application by injection was more phytotoxic than the cut surface application. Me cellosolve alone was not phytotoxic and I in Me2CO had no effect. Foliar application of I (200 ppm) in Me cellosolve or Me2CO stimulated lateral branching in chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium), although I in Me cellosolve decreased plant height more and was more phytotoxic than I in Me2CO or Me cellosolve alone.
