DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Of several antioxidants evaluated, Pr gallate [121-79-9] and octyl gallate [1034-01-1] were most potent in inhibiting lucigenin [2315-97-1]- and luminol [521-31-3]-dependent chemiluminescence induced by NADPH in rat liver microsomes. The antioxidant inhibition of chemiluminescence was most likely not due to inhibition of lipid peroxidn. Microsomal DMSO oxidn. to HCHO, elicited by hydroxyl radicals or agents possessing the oxidizing properties of hydroxyl radicals, was inhibited by the antioxidants. The antioxidants inhibited lucigenin-dependent chemiluminescence in suspensions of intact rat hepatocytes. This lucigenin-dependent chemiluminescence was dependent on the percentage of intact hepatocytes. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 72 (Electrochemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 22, 27 Electrochem. behavior of N,N'-dimethyl-9,9'-biacridinium dinitrate (DBA2+.cntdot.2NO3-) [2315-97-1] was investigated by means of cyclic and rotating ring-disk electrode voltammetry and const. potential coulometry. On the cyclic voltammogram of lucigenin dissolved in Me2SO, 2 peaks were obsd. at -0.51 V vs. Ag/AgNO3 on the cathodic scan and at +0.21 V on the anodic scan. Results of coulometry confirmed that the overall processes of redn. from DBA2+ to N,N'-dimethyl-9,9'-biacridinylidene (DBA) [23663-77-6] and of oxidn. from DBA to DBA2+ require transfer of 2 electrons. However, the result of voltammetry suggested that the redn. process proceeds via the intermediate, N,N'-dimethyl-9,9'-biacridinium radical cation (I) [62913-90-0](DBA+). Results with the mixed soln. of lucigenin and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl [1898-66-4] suggested the existence of electrochem. generated I. Two types of redn. steps are proposed as probable mechanisms. Voltammograms of lucigenin in the aq. soln. were very similar to those in Me2SO, aside from the effect due to adsorption. When the sample was left for 24 h in the alk. soln. of pH .apprx.8, another new peak at +0.92 V (vs. SCE) was obsd. on anodic scan.
