DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) The toxicity of erythrosin B [16423-68-0] to housefly was increased by combining it with other xanthene dyes in the following order: rose bengal [11121-48-5] 3 eosin Y [17372-87-1] 3 diiodofluorescein [33239-19-9] 3 fluorescein [2321-07-5] 3 octabromofluorescein [77274-97-6] 3 or phloxin B [18472-87-2]. Fluorescein, dichlorofluorescein [2320-96-9], and dibromofluorescein [4372-02-5] alone were nontoxic to housefly, whereas the other above dyes were toxic at concns. 1 ′ 10-5M to 3 ′ 10-3M. The synergistic effect of these dyes on erythrosin B toxicity could not be related to no. of halogens, percent halogenation, mol. wt., partition coeff., fluorescence quantum yield, overlap interval, or multiplicative value of these xanthene dyes. Thus, increased efficiency of erythrosin B in killing houseflies could be achieved by using lesser amts. of erythrosin B in combination with other dyes.
