DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 16 (Fermentations) Methylchlorophenylisoxazolepenicillins were produced from penicillins and derivs. of 3-o-chlorophenyl-5-methylisoxazole-4-carboxyl acid [23598-72-3] by cultures or cell prepns. of Streptomyces. Thus, S. phaeochromogenes ATCC 21289 was cultured aerobically at 30.degree. and pH 7.3 for 4 days in a medium contg. sol. starch 3, soybean meal 2, NaCl 0.2, yeast ext. 0.2, and peptone 0.5%. 23598-72-3 and 61-72-3 are also in the experiment. Penicillin V (3.5 mg/mL) was added to the culture; the pH adjusted to 8.0, and incubation continued for 7 h with occasional pH adjustment at 8.0. The medium was adjusted to pH 2.0 and excess penicillin V and phenoxyacetic acid were removed from the medium with BuOAc. The medium was adjusted to pH 6.5 and to this was added 3-o-chlorophenyl-5-methylisoxazole-4-carboxyl acid methyl ester (5 mg/mL). The mixt. was incubated for 15 h with occassional pH adjustment at 6.5. The medium contained 3.25 mg methylchlorophenylisoxazolepenicillin V [61-72-3]. .
