DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) In rats with Triton WR 1339-induced hyperlipemia, oral administration of nicotinic acid N-oxide (I) [2398-81-4] (75 mg/kg) plus clofibrate (II) [637-07-0] (300 mg/kg) had a greater hypocholestermic effect than did administration of either compd. alone. The ability of each compd. sep. to lower serum triglycerides and total lipids was not enhanced by combined administration. Given alone, I (20-75 mg/kg) had fair hypocholesteremic and hypolipemic activities but was less effective than II (75-300 mg/kg).

In this paper, a simple and sensitive high-performance liq. chromatog. Calibration curves show linearity over the 50 to 3000 ng/mL range with low intra- and interday variability as well as good selectivity and specificity. 2398-81-4 and 93479-97-1 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here. No solid-phase extn. is performed because the liq. dichloromethane extn. step yields excellent results.
