Biodeterior., 9th, Volume 2, 474-91. Inst. Cercet. Stiint. Ing. Tehnol. Ind. Electrotech.: Bucharest, Rom. (Romanian) 1982. CODEN: 51IYAE. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) A byproduct from the manuf. of 2,6-xylenol [576-26-1], contg. 36.3% 2,3,6-trimethylphenol [2416-94-6], 19.4% 2,3,4,6- [3238-38-8] plus 2,3,5,6-tetramethylphenol [527-35-5], 9.9% 2,4,6-trimethylphenol [527-60-6], and 2.1% 2,6-xylenol was used as a wood preservative. The byproduct protected wood against destruction by bacteria (Pseudomonas fluorescens, Bacillus subtilis, B. mesentericus, and B. megaterium), by fungi (Chaetomium gloosum, Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, etc.) and insects (Anobium and Reticulitermes lucifugus).

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) Fungicidal constituents against Rhizoctonia solani and Alternalia mali were isolated from Kuntan (calcined rice chaff) smoke. The fungicidal constituents were phenolics and o [106-44-5], m [108-39-4], and p-cresol [106-44-5], 4-ethylphenol [123-07-9], 2,3,6-trimethylphenol [2416-94-6], 4-n-propylphenol [645-56-7], 4-ethyl-2-methoxyphenol [2785-89-9], 4-n-propyl-2-methoxyphenol [2785-87-7], and 4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol [97-53-0]) and .alpha.,.beta.-unsatd.-.gamma.-butyrolactones (2-methyl-4-hydroxy-2-hexenoic acid lactone [26329-68-0] and 2-ethyl-4-hydroxy-2-pentenoic acid lactone [14668-66-7]). 2416-94-6 and 2785-87-7 are just another two chemicals used in this study. The anti-pathogenic nature of Kuntan may be due in part to the fungicidal constituents isolated from Kuntan smoke. .
