The effects of initial sugar concn. and oxygen transfer rate were examd. The latter appears to be the most important parameter affecting the kinetics of the process. The best results (44 g 2,3-butanediol/L, productivity of 0.79 g/L-h) were obtained by setting an optimal kLa profile during batch culture.
