Epoxy diacrylate [I, R = H; X = CH2CH(OH)CH2O, n = 1] [4687-94-9], BIS-EMA (I, R = Me; X = CH2CH2O; n = 1) [24448-20-2], and BIS-MA (I, R = Me; n = 0) [3253-39-2] were strong sensitizers, whereas BIS-GMA [I, R = Me; X = CH2CH(OH)CH2O; n = 1] [1565-94-2], branched BIS-GMA [I, R = Me; X = CH2CH(CH2OH)O; n = 1] [80638-50-2], and BIS-PMA (I, R Me; X = (CH2)3O; n = 1] [27689-12-9] had no or little sensitizing capacity. The impurities in BIS-GMA and BIS-MA batches appear to have high allergy potential.
