The product was a mixt. of the thiomorpholide and oxothiomorpholide. After a partial sepn. the thiomorpholide was hydrolyzed with KOH-EtOH to give the acid I. Cyclization of I with P2O5 in boiling PhMe gave 7-chlorothieno[2,3b]-1-benzothiepin-4(5H)-one which was reduced with NaBH4 to the alc. Reaction of the alc. with HCl-C6H6 led to the chloro deriv. whose substitution with 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazine afforded the title compd. (II). The product has strong central nervous system depressant and discoordinating activity, a low cataleptic effect but in a relatively high dose it does not influence the dopamine metab. in the rat brain. .
