Biol., 32(8), 891-4 (French) 1984. CODEN: PTBIAN. ISSN: 0031-3009. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) The plasma levels of pregnenolone sulfate (I) [1247-64-9], 17-hydroxypregnenolone sulfate (II) [2477-77-2], and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (III) [651-48-9] were detd. in human fetuses and mothers at 21-28 wk of amenorrhea. In fetal plasma, II was quant. the most important. The levels of I and III were comparable. The levels of all 3 steroid sulfates decreased between 21 and 28 wk, and there was a significant correlation between their concns. and gestational age. In maternal plasma, III showed the highest concns., but was lower than that obsd. in fetal plasma. The maternal levels of I and II were substantially lower than those obsd. in the fetus. All the maternal steroid sulfate levels remained stable during the period examd.; therefore, no significant correlation was obsd. between their levels and gestational age. The comparison of maternal and fetal levels showed a significant correlation only for I.

CODEN: NNGZAZ. ISSN: 0029-0661. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) Section cross-reference(s): 13 The serum concns. (ng/mL) of 17a-hydroxypregnenolone [387-79-1], 17a-hydroxypregnenolone 3-sulfate [2477-77-2], and 17a-hydroxyprogesterone [68-96-2], resp., were as follows: umbilical blood, 13.5, 965, and 46.3; children 3 wk-2 mo, 6.83, 189, and 0.96; 3-4 mo, 1.81, 27.7, and 0.17; 5-11 mo, 0.93, 3.54, and 0.15; 1-2 yr, 0.47, 2.09, and 0.14; 3-6 yr, 0.57, 1.26, and 0.25; 7-9 yr, 0.59, 1.66, and 0.21; 10-12 yr, 1.16, 2.80, and 0.55; 13-15 yr, 1.18, 3.91, and 0.43; male adults, 1.46, 6.53, and 0.72; female adults in follicular phase, 1.57, 5.71, and 0.40; and female adults in luteal phase, 2.31, 5.77, and 1.26. The age-dependent changes in these steroids of serum is indicative of postnatal differentiation of adrenocortical function to the adult type, whereby development of steroid sulfokinase [9032-76-2] is slower than that of 3b-hydroxy steroid dehydrogenase [9015-81-0].
