DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 35 (Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers) Diallylnaphthalene (I) [28729-39-7] was prepd. in 32-37% yield by allylation of naphthalene [91-20-3] or allylnaphthalene [2489-86-3] with allyl alc. [107-18-6] in the presence of ZnCl2 at 135°. Polymn. of I with maleic anhydride in the presence of Me3COOCMe3 at 140° gave sol. oligomers [92889-18-4], which were easily crosslinked with glycols and epoxy resins. I was also used to crosslink an unsatd polyester in the presence of isopropylbenzene hydroperoxide [80-15-9] or Bz2O2 [94-36-0], giving a high degree of structuring (￡71%).
