- Effect of copolymers modifying PVC on its physical and mechanical properties and its UV-radiation resistance. III. Changes in thermal stability of PVC films modified by MMA/MA, VC/VAC, MBS or ABS induced by UV-irradiation. Kaminska, A.; Kaczmarek, H. (Inst. Chem., N. Copernicus Univ., Torun 87-100, Pol.). Angew. Makromol. Chem., 120, 149-54 (English) 1984. CODEN: ANMCBO. ISSN: 0003-3146. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) PVC [9002-86-2] contg. 9002-86-2 and 9003-22-9 are also in the experiment. 1% vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride copolymer (I) [9003-22-9] has accelerated photodehydrochlorination and decreased degrdn. temp. ABS [9003-56-9] increases the UV resistance of PVC. PVC films contg. 1% butadiene-Me methacrylate-styrene copolymer [25053-09-2], ABS, or Me acrylate-Me methacrylate copolymer [9011-87-4] show the largest decompn. temp. changes; at 3-10% the changes are smaller and may go in either direction. These polymers, unlike I, show some turbidity in PVC, indicating limited compatibility which influences thermal and photostability. .
