DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 36 (Physical Properties of Synthetic High Polymers) The structure of ethylene-methacrylic acid graft copolymer [25053-53-6] was studied by statistical anal. of grafting, assuming that grafting took place only at tertiary C atoms, that the no. of Me groups and branching points in polyethylene (I) segments were equal, that branching points were randomly distributed and independent of chain length, and that polyethylene and poly(methacrylic acid) (II) were monodisperse. A model for copolymer structure was proposed in which 1 II chain was attached to 1 I chain. Bz2O2 did not influence the mol. wt. distribution of the parent I under the grafting conditions used. Av. graft d. for the blend contg. 0.5 mmol grafted II/mL was 1.6. Thus, ~20% low-d. I was grafted, and only a small fraction of I contained >1 grafted II chain.
