DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) Partial molar heats of mixing (DH1¥) of normal C8-14 alkanes were of the order of few hundred cal/mol in polyethylene [9002-88-4], polypropylene [9003-07-0], and poly-1-butene [9003-28-5]. Polymers contg. minor amts. of polar groups, such as ethylene-vinyl acetate polymer [24937-78-8] of vinyl acetate content 18% and carbon monoxide-ethylene copolymer [25052-62-4] of CO content 10.5% showed minor effects on DH1¥. In more polar polymers, such as polystyrene [9003-53-6], poly(Me acrylate) [9003-21-8], and PVC [9002-86-2], or poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) [25189-55-3], (with BuOH [71-36-3] solute), DH1¥ ranged from 1 to 4 kcal/mol. The DH1¥ were detd. by gas chromatog.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 42 (Coatings, Inks, and Related Products) Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (I) [25189-55-3] was useful as an adhesion promoter for cellulose [9004-34-6] ester coatings, esp. on wood substrates. The optimum concn. of I was .apprx.20% and inherent viscosity .apprx.0.6. The cellulose ester had an optimum seconds viscosity 0.1-20 (ASTM D-817-65), 2-30% acetyl content and 15-50% butyryl content.
