DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 36 (Physical Properties of Synthetic High Polymers) Section cross-reference(s): 68 Binary mixts. of a urethane hard-segment model [di-Et (methylenedi-p-phenylne)dicarbamate (I) [10097-16-2]] with 3 polyoxyalkylenes were studied by DSC, wide-angle x-ray diffraction, and optical microscopy. Polyethylene glycol (II) [25322-68-3] (1500 mol.Several reagents with their cas registry numbers 10097-16-2 and 25322-68-3 are used here. wt.) and polytetramethylene glycol (III) [25190-06-1] (1000 mol. wt.) formed eutectics ( I-II and I-III). Polypropylene glycol (IV) [25322-69-4] (1000 mol. wt.) and I gave a cryst.-amorphous blend. X-ray diffraction showed that the polyethers did not change the crystal structure of I in the blends, suggesting that the m.p. depression resulted from I-polyol thermodn. mixing. Scott's equation gave interaction parameter d. for I-II, I-III, and I-IV -4.63, -3.42 and -1.21 cal/mL, resp., at the I m.p. Optical microscopy showed that I spherulites were larger and more perfect in texture in blends than in pure I. .
