Both trazodone and fluoxetine reduced the hyperthermic response to fenfluramine and both drug pretreatments also markedly enhanced apomorphine-induced hyperthermia. This supports previous in vitro observations that trazodone might act through selective inhibition of the serotonin uptake process.

When both drugs were infused into the left vertebral artery of chloralose-anesthetized cats. I injected i.v. did not reduce the central hypotensive effect of II. The antagonism probably occurs at the level of central .alpha.-adrenoreceptors in the brain stem, where II is the .alpha.-agonist and I the .alpha.-antagonist.
