The absorbance of the org. phase was measured at 430 nm. Five mL 2 .times. 10-5 - 2 .times. 90-94-8 and 2553-71-1 are also in the experiment. 10-4 M I in CHCl3 was mixed with 10 mL 0.01M II in 10% EtOH and 10 mL pH 1.0 buffer soln. for 20 min and the absorbance of the CHCl3 layer was measured. The calibration curves were linear and the relative errors were .ltoreq.6.0%. The detn. of I with other sulfophthalein dyes was less sensitive than with II. .

The relative std. deviation was 0.02-0.13. Tannin did not interfere. .
