DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 19 (Fertilizers, Soils, and Plant Nutrition) The caking of highly dehydrated fertilizers based on NH4NO3 and contg. ￡0.5% H2O was prevented by coating the granules with an aq. soln. contg. a mixt. of Na butylnaphthalenesulfonate [25638-17-9] (NaBS) and Na2SO4 and(or) with CaCO3 and(or) MgCO3 powder, ￡80% of which particles had a size of <2 m and ￡20% of which had a size of >15 m. In addn., an org. substance contg. a naphthalene ring and its alkyl derivs. with 1 or 2 alkyl radicals of 4 C atoms is introduced into the coating compn. in such a way that the aq. soln. had a total component content of 15-45%, out of which 10-35% consisted of the anionic org. substance, and the wt. ratio of the org. to inorg. substance in the soln. was 2-20. The coating soln. is used at 0.03-0.04% and the powdering material at 1-4% of the fertilizer wt. Thus, a granulated NH4NO3 fertilizer contg. 0.18% H2O was coated by 1st jet spraying a mixt. of NaBS, Na2SO4 and anionically inactive org. substance consisting of a mixt. of naphthalene [91-20-3], Bu naphthalene [31711-50-9], and di-Bu naphthalene [38641-19-9] at 0.15% of the fertilizer wt. and then powd. with 2.5% CaCO3 contg. 33% particles of <2 m and 23% particles of >10 m. The ratio of org. to inorg. substance in the soln. mixt. was 4.7, the NaBS content was 13.5% and that of the anionically inactive substance was 9% (on naphthalene-basis). The anticaking efficacy was 99%. .
