Acute effect of dibenz[b,f][1,4]oxazepine aerosol upon the lung function of healthy young men
Acute effect of dibenz[b,f][1,4]oxazepine aerosol upon the lung function of healthy young men. Ashton, I.; Cotes, J. E.; Holland, P.; Johnson, G. R.; Legg, S. J.; Saunders, M. J.; White, R. G. (MRC Pneumoconiosis Unit., Llandough Hosp., Penarth, Wales). J. Physiol. (London), 275 85P (English) 1978. CODEN: JPHYA7. ISSN: 0022-3751. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Exposure to dibenz[b,f][1,4]oxazepine [257-07-8] (aerosol, particle size 1-2 m, for 1 h, mean concn. 0.25 mg/m3) diminished the peak expiratory flow rate (7% after 20 min) and increased the transfer factor (T1') and the KCO (T1'/alveolar vol.) (~5% after 1 h). The vol. of gas inhaled during the measurement was decreased by 3%, but the alveolar vol. was unchanged. The resting cardiac frequency increased transiently after the start of the exposure and the V-iso v on av. increased by 15%. The aerosol either stimulates pulmonary irritant receptors, causing bronchoconstriction, or induces acute discomfort which augments sympathetic tone, and hence probably increases pulmonary blood vol., and also mitigates the bronchoconstriction.
