Thus, adding 10 g H2O and then 0.95 g H3PO4 to 1 L low-mol.-wt. glycerol polypropylene glycol ether (1:3) [25791-96-2] (alky. 0.1% KOH) at 80°, stirring strongly for 1 h, filtering off salts, stirring with 10 g each cation and anion exchanger at 50° for 1 h, filtering, and distn. of H2O gave a polyether with acid no. 0.01 mg KOH/g, pH 6.9, and K content 3 ppm.

Of the penetrating chems., the I has the most potential agent to prevent discoloration of wood surfaces. Exptl. results showed that the II is quite stable and resistant to photodegrdn., and the combination of BHT [128-37-0] with II offered enhanced protection against photodegrdn.
