The most potent compds. were 4-chlorobenzaldehyde 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4(1H)-pyridinylidene hydrazone fluorosulfonate (I-sulfonate) [62854-30-2], the 4-bromobenzaldehyde deriv. (II) [62854-52-8], and the 3,4-dichlorobenzaldehyde deriv. (III) [62906-53-0]. I, II, and III were prepd. by the reaction of 4-chloroaniline with chelidonic acid, followed by decarboxylation, O-methylation, reaction with hydrazine, and condensation with the appropriate benzaldehyde deriv. Structure-activity relations are discussed and a comparison of structural and conformational features of I and robenidine [25875-51-8] is given. .
