DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Hormone Pharmacology) Section cross-reference(s): 9, 1 In 98 infertile men, function tests utilizing gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) [9034-40-6] (100 .mu.g, i.v.), clomiphene [911-45-5] (200 mg/day for 5 days, orally), and human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) [9002-61-3] (500-10000 IU, i.m.) were useful diagnostic procedures, whereas tests with L-dopa [59-92-7] (500 mg, orally) and human menopausal gonadotropin (HMG) [61489-71-2] were of little value in assessing the endocrine function. Cyclophenyl [2624-43-3] did not alter androgen or gonadotropin levels. GnRH was useful for distinguishing between primary and secondary hypogonadotropism. HCG permitted discrimination between primary and secondary Leydig cell deficiencies. Exploration of the status of the hypothalamic-pituitary-testis axis through the use of stimuli specifically active at individual glands provides diagnostic usefulness in reprodn. disorders.
