The animals died within 8 days due to renal necrosis and microhemorrhage. Applied on the skin or in the eye, it caused dermatitis or conjunctivitis, resp. Chronic dermal application on skin (0.01 LD50, i.e., 0.21 g I/kg for 10 days) in rats caused nervous system and liver injury. The inhalation of 40.99 mg I/m3 for 4 h increased serum activity of fructose diphosphate aldolase [9024-52-6]; lethal concns. in rats and mice were 282 and 310 mg I/m3, resp. For occupational exposure, 8 mg I/m3 is recommended as max. permissible concn.
