DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) Section cross-reference(s): 23, 25 Nature of the solvent (PhMe and AcOEt) had little effect on the monomer reactivity ratios and Q-e values in radical copolymn. of acrylonitrile (I) [107-13-1] with N,N-diethylacrylamide (II) [2675-94-7] and N-ethyl-N-phenylacrylamide (III) [61591-82-0]. The copolymn. rates were effected by compn. of the reaction mixt., nature of the solvent, and structure of the monomers. E.g., the r1, r2, Q, and e values in the copolymn. of II (M1) and I (M2) in PhMe were 1.29 .+-. 0.06, 0.22 .+-. 0.05, 0.71, and 0.081, resp. The corresponding values in AcOEt were 1.22 .+-. 0.10, 0.27 .+-. 0.03, 0.63, and 0.15. The copolymn. rate of II with I decreased with increasing concn. of I in the reaction mixt. In the system III-I the copolymn. rates reached max. of the resp. M ratios 4:6 in PhMe and 6:4 in AcOEt. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) Polymn. and discoloration of acrylamides CH2:CHCOR (I) [R = NMe2 (II) [2680-03-7], NEt2 [2675-94-7], aziridinyl [2747-60-6], pyrrolidino [42104-70-1], morpholino [5117-12-4]] are inhibited in the presence of BHA [25013-16-5]. BHA inhibits polymn. of I as effectively as hydroquinone, and discoloration of I is less. Thus, 3 ml II contg. 2747-60-6 and 42104-70-1 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here. 100 ppm BHA was kept at 100.degree. in the dark for 225 min, and contained 98.5% monomer by iodometry (98.8%, with hydroquinone). II (10 g) contg. 200 ppm BHA was kept at 50.degree. in the dark, and was colorless after 50 days (deep yellow, with hydroquinone), and slightly yellow after 75 days. .
