The paint has excellent stability, water and corrosion resistance, and workability. Thus, dehydrated castor oil fatty acid 158, trimethylolethane 71, phthalic anhydride 102, and trimellitic anhydride 19 parts were heated 10 h at 180° to prep. an alkyd resin (solids acid value 35) which (100 parts) was mixed with ethyl Cellosolve 70, AIBN 1, styrene 70, Me methacrylate 20, methacrylic acid 10, and Et3N 20 parts to obtain a vinyl-modified water-sol. alkyd resin (65%-solids) which (100 parts) was mixed with 27 parts Antage SP [26857-99-8] (styrene modified phenol), black pigment (to pigment wt. content 5%), and 2 parts soln. of 5% Co naphthenate and 20% Pb naphthenate to give a paint. The paint on an untreated steel plate showed excellent gloss, good drying property, impact strength >30 cm (500 g wt.), good water resistance (48 h at 40°), no corrosion (144 h in 5% aq. NaCl), and excellent adhesion.
