The Agency is establishing these temporary tolerances under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, as amended by the Food Quality Protection Act of 1996 to support an Exptl. Use Permit (EUP) that involves testing a possible alternative to Me bromide in the post-harvest fumigation of stored commodities. This exptl. use fumigant program is being proposed as a Me bromide alternative for the post-harvest fumigation of stored walnuts and raisins. These temporary tolerances will support a 3-yr EUP effective between Mar. 1, 2002 through Mar. 1, 2005 and allows 18 mo for treated commodities to clear commerce. The EUP will be conducted by Dow AgroSciences entirely in the state of California. The temporary tolerances expire on Sept. 1, 2006. A detailed risk assessment for the proposed use was published in the Federal Register on Sept. 5, 2001 (66 FR 46415).
